The Butterfly Hub (TBH) is a ‘non-LA commissioned’ base for services children with complex communication needs. It is a new provision designed to meet the high levels of need associated with a small number of children (maximum 8) within our community. It aims to deliver bespoke learning programmes for children with EHCPs already or who are being accelerated along the diagnostic pathway.

Adult ratios are high with two experienced members of the team supporting the children in setting as well as learning alongside their peers within the main school. TBH aims to support children to spend time within mainstream lessons between 20 to 80% of their time, depending on the needs of the child.
The Butterfly Hub has a main room and a sensory room adjourning its own cloakroom and toilet facilities. It has good access to outdoor gardens and playground equipment and a soft play room. Parents have excellent access to the provision to enable smooth drop offs and pick ups of their children and daily oral communication with staff.
Admission to The Butterfly Hub is controlled by leaders within the school, working alongside Local Authority partners such as SEN Case Workers. At this time, attendance to TBH is limited to children from services families who are already admitted to Downlands Community School, via the LA controlled admissions process and with full oversight of the school leadership team.
