At Downlands Community School, we firmly believe that science goes hand-in-hand with a child’s curiosity about the world in which they live. The importance of asking questions, talking about your ideas with others and learning through trial and error are principles which are important at every level of science. All our pupils will have science lessons every week with the emphasis being on learning through enquiry and practical activities. We also make good use of our wonderful school grounds which includes a wildlife and pond dipping area.
The following policy describes the vision and pedagogical principles for teaching and learning science, which has been agreed by staff and governors.
