Inclusion

The special educational needs and disability (SEND) provision is overseen by Mrs C Goodall (Assistant Headteacher/SENDCo). However, we expect every member of the team to show leadership when it comes to supporting children with additional needs.

We offer a range of support for children, beginning with our expectation for high quality and adaptive teaching and learning strategies within all lessons. Teachers and Teaching Assistants will also deliver more targeted interventions to individuals and small groups of children in a range of areas such as:

  • Gross and fine motor skills
  • Phonics
  • Number fluency and facts
  • Handwriting
  • Speech and language
  • Peer relations
  • Emotional regulation

Assess/Plan/Do/Review cycles are used to ensure that these additional support programmes are being used effectively and applied fairly. We also work with a variety of external agencies to supplement the key areas identified above and to accurately diagnose the additional needs of children.

The Local Offer

Dorset Local Authority and other partner agencies have set out a ‘Local Offer‘ detailing all the services available to support children with SEND and their families. The local offer enables families to understand what services they can access and what support they can expect from a range of local agencies, including from Dorset Council, health services, leisure services and the voluntary sector. The offer includes provision from birth to 25 y/o, across education, health and social care.

The outcomes of the Local Offer are:

  • To provide clarity and confidence to parents
  • To support earlier intervention
  • To reduce the need for assessment
  • To identify needs and gaps in provision
  • To provide an evidence base for improving progress and securing better outcomes, at school and local level
